Barn_Quilt_1

Barn Quilt Workshop/BOM

Description:  Don't you just love a good Barn Quilt!  Come join Sharon Wilhelm and learn her Crayola crayon technique background with embroidery on top. Sharon will teach you how to use your crayons for base coating, shading, shadowing, and highlighting with color and textures.  After coloring, learn how to heat set and preserve your block/quilt colors during washing.  Sharon will next teach you a basic embroidery stitch to make the barn “pop” up from the background.  LSQW will be offering this Barn Quilt Trail as a Block of the Month starting in October.  Sharon will teach Barn Quilt #11 Block on Thursday and Barn Quilt #5 Block on Friday.

Binding Your Quilt

Description:  Learn about all the different ways to finish the edge of your completed quilt.  Samples of standard binding, including techniques for joining the ends of the binding strip, bias binding on curves, and a facing finish will be made in class, providing a reference for the future.

Description:  Boxers are all the rage with men, women, boys and girls!  Come make a pair of boxers that will be the envy of all your friends.  Great for sleeping or daily wear!  Once you make a pair you won’t be able to stop, and all your friends will want you to make them one out of very cool fabric!  This class will teach you how to read a pattern, cut out the pattern, follow the pattern directions, how to sew a flat fell seam, make a hem and how to work with sport elastic.

First Time Quiltmaking

Description:  Let Norma help you make your very first quilt in this class!  Learn about measuring, rotary cutting, and simple piecing.  We’ll finish the edge with a continuous machine binding and tie the layers together to complete this crib size quilt.  Basic knowledge of you sewing machine is expected.

Judy Niemeyer Wedding Ring Class

Description:  The traditional wedding ring pattern is one of the most popular and best loved of all patterns and Judy Niemeyer has nine wedding ring patterns to choose from - including two newly released designs: Diamond Wedding Star and Autumn Pines.  While students are permitted to work on any Judy Niemeyer Wedding Ring pattern, the focus will be on the Bali Wedding Star and new Diamond Wedding Star (bedsized) / Autumn Pines (wall hanging) patterns.  Some prior Judy Niemeyer pattern construction experience requested but not required.

This is a three-day class.

Machine Applique

Description:  Learn 3 easy machine appliqué techniques.  Deb will present a “mock hand look” method using freezer paper, and 2 fusible appliqué methods with fusible web and fusible thread.  We will make two blocks incorporating all three techniques in each block.  This class requires a sewing machine with an adjustable zigzag stitch.

Machine Quilting

Description:  Complete your quilting projects in days instead of weeks!  Learn to do free-motion machine quilting on your very own sewing machine.  The class covers marking, basting, stippling, and the all-important free motion technique used to follow marked lines.  A marked fabric and batting sandwiched sample will be provided as part of the class fee for you to practice with.

Poinsettia Table Topper

Description:  Introduced at 2017 Spring Market, Poinsettia Table Topper is a wonderful project to learn Judy Niemeyer’s “vein” technique (curved piecing on the papers).  This small project is a great introduction to curved piecing techniques and “wedge” assembly methods.  No prior paper piecing experience is required.  Join Jan Mathews, Quiltworx Certified Instructor, for this new project.

Prismatic or Fractured Star

Description:  Choose either the Prismatic Star pattern or the Fractured Star pattern (newly introduced at 2017 Spring Market) for this class.  Both of these patterns utilize 2-1/2” pre-cut strips (Bali Pops or Jelly Rolls) so fabric cutting is minimal.  These are both great patterns to introduce you to the Judy Niemeyer/Quiltworx paper piecing techniques.  Bonus: construction is done in “wedges” so NO “Y” seams - Woohoo.  Join Jan Mathews, Quiltworx Certified Instructor, to complete either of these great patterns.

Progressive Quilting

Description:  This class is for individuals who are familiar with, and who have practiced, quilting by machine.  Deb will introduce her method of progressive quilting, in which the quilt is assembled as the machine quilting is done.  This eliminates the need to roll the quilt to fit in the space to the right of the needle.  Intrigued?  Join Deb for more info.

Description:  Let Norma show you this sweet pattern called Sweet Sixteen.  A beginner stitch and sew quilt that uses 16 Fat Quarters and 2 more fabrics for accents and borders.  Makes a quick and attractive quilt.  Teaches some beginner basics including how to follow basic pattern, make corner “kites” and adding borders.

Description:  Join Charles and help him make some quilts for our local Books and a Blanket program.  You only need to bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and your lunch.  Bottled water and sodas are available for purchase.  All of your materials will be furnished for you as you learn a new quilt pattern from Charles!

Farmer's Wife 1930's Club

Description:  Do you love the cheery prints of the 1930’s?  Are you interested in learning more about the lives of women who lived during the great depression?  Then come and join Betty while we explore the book The Farmer’s Wife 1930’s by Laurie Hird. 

This Club will be scheduled each month through December on the second Wednesday at either 10A or 6P.  The goal for this club is for you to finish 8 – 9 blocks each month and bring them to the next meeting.  We will be making the sampler quilt from the book using 6 inch blocks.  The overall size of the quilt is 86” x 103” (queen size) and includes 99 blocks. Other options could be a lap quilt (32 blocks), twin (84 blocks) or king (126 blocks).  The group will focus mainly on foundation paper piecing.  However, you can also piece by hand, as Laurie does, or machine piece using templates.

Cost: $10/month

Machine Embroidery Club

Description:  We will meet the 4th Tuesday of each month to complete a small Kimberbell project, open to all machine brands.  A supply list will be available each month in advance, with some supplies included in the club price.

Rug Hooking Club

Description:  Join Terry and Kathy and the Aggieland Rug Hookers as we hook the day away!  Bring a brown bag lunch and whatever project you are working on.  This group is great fun and you will learn lots of tips.  Don’t rug hook and would like to learn?  We have all of the supplies you will need and teach classes by request.  Know of somebody who rug hooks?  Please let them know we have lots of wool in many different colors.
