Tucker_University

Tucker University 1-101 Tucker Trimmer I and Shaded Four Patch

Description: Tucker University is a new and exciting opportunity to help quilters build their skills and accuracy. Each class covers a different Studio 180 Design tool along with ways to expand the use of the tool.  Students will make 4" finished units so that they can combine and create new blocks. The creativity is contagious!

For every lesson (class) you complete you will receive a limited edition Siesta Silver Charm.  If you attend every lesson (perfect attendance) you will receive a graduation charm!

Learn how to use a Tucker Trimmer I to create half square triangles, quarter square triangles, and combination units.  With the Tucker Trimmer I alone, a quilter can make 3 different units in 11 different sizes.  These units are often what we refer to as basic units, therefore they must be precise to fit nicely with more advanced units.  This is a perfect place for any quilter to begin their journey through the Studio 180 Design set of tools.

You will also learn how to expand the use of your Tucker Trimmer I by creating a Shaded Four Patch unit.  By using Deb Tucker's method of strip piecing the construction of a shaded-four patch, the quilter eliminates the stretching and puckering within the unit.  Quilters will use their Tucker Trimmer I to finalize their units and then discover a wide array of layouts that can be created with just one block.

Cost:  $25 (includes the class fee and exclusive charm)

Date(s):  Saturday, September 29th, 9A - 12:30P OR 1P - 4:30P.

Skill Level:   All Levels

Instructor:  Jan M.

Notes:  Required purchase of Tucker Trimmer I ($20.99), Quilter's Magic Wand ($6.99) and Shaded Four Patch Technique Sheet ($7.99).

If you are seeing stars in your future then you have just found your new best friend, the V Block.  Making stars is not the only thing the V Block can do to improve your piecing techniques.  Once you learn how to use the V Block, you will not go back to those plastic templates you have been tracing and slicing.  Or connect a V Block with a half square triangle and watch the curves develop.  The possibilities are only limited to your imagination.

Push the use of your V Block a bit further by learning how to create Sidekicks and High/Low units.  You will amaze your quilting friends by thinking that you made a difficult unit, when in fact the use of the V Block made your life so easy.

Cost:  $25 (includes the class fee and exclusive charm)

Learn the simple secrets to creating crisp, clean flying geese effectively and quickly.  This method can be applied to any pattern that requires flying geese units.  Since you usually have to make hundreds of these units at a time, why not make them perfect every time?

Expand the use of your Wing Clipper I by learning how to make Pickets and Quickets.  Once you begin to recognize these units, you will be surprised how often they appear in patterns from your favorite magazines and designers.  You will want to add Pickets and Quickets to your border options.

The Square Squared unit can be found within blocks as well as sashing.  Since this unit is often used to connect other units, the points are extremely valuable for the design to work without interruption.  You will save those points with the Square Squared tool.  The secondary benefit to using Deb Tucker's method of creating square Squared units is that you will not waste fabric.  It's a win-win situation.

Expand the use of your Square Squared tool by learning how to make little houses.  Little houses have been disguised in borders and have shown up in some star blocks.  You will be astounded where these units show up.

Wagon Wheels

Description: Wagon Wheels is a pieced quilt that is made from strip sets and a 15-degree ruler.  It is all straight sewing; the curved blocks are an illusion.  In this class, you will make several of the blocks and then will complete them at home.  Any number of blocks can be made but each 'set' consists of two blocks.  I usually make this with different fabrics but you can also make the quilt using the same two 'main colors' and an accent strip in addition to the background fabric.  It is a fun, quickly put together quilt and is a very happy quilt!  I promise chocolate, laughter, and a lot of time at your machine.

The Bible Quilt Group

Description:  The Bible Sampler Quilt is a collection of 96 patterns pairing a classic quilt block with a Bible verse.  The book was compiled by Laurie Hird.  The blocks in the book tell the story of the Bible in chronological order from Creation to Revelation.  There are 12 rows in the quilt with 8 blocks in each row, which is perfect for our 11-month group.  The CD that accompanies the book includes block diagrams, templates for hand or machine piecing, rotary cutting instructions where applicable and foundation paper piecing patterns.  Most in the group will do paper piecing, so that is what will be focused on, but you may use any method you choose.  The finished quilt is queen size or you can make two lap size quilts (approximately 66" x 78").  This group will be scheduled to meet each month on the second Wednesday at either 10A, 1P, or 6P for eleven months.
