First Time Quiltmaking

Description:  Let Norma help you make your very first quilt in this class!  Learn about measuring, rotary cutting, and simple piecing.  We’ll finish the edge with a continuous machine binding and tie the layers together to complete this crib size quilt.  Basic knowledge of you sewing machine is expected.

Description:  Deb Tucker has created the Rapid-Fire Hunter’s Star rulers (Petite and Large sizes) which make piecing the traditional Hunter’s Star a breeze.  Choose your pattern – Hot Flash (uses the Rapid-Fire Hunter’s Star Petite ruler) or Hunter’s Lodge (uses the Rapid-Fire Hunter’s Star Large ruler).  Either pattern offers a spectacular pieced quilt and border and either pattern works with scraps and/or fat quarters.  Jan Mathews will teach you how to use the Deb Tucker, Design 180 Studio rulers, together with piecing tips and tricks for an easy and beautiful quilt top.

Description:  Learn 3 easy machine appliqué techniques.  Deb will present a “mock hand look” method using freezer paper, and 2 fusible appliqué methods with fusible web and fusible thread.  We will make two blocks incorporating all three techniques in each block.  This class requires a sewing machine with an adjustable zigzag stitch.

Description:  It’s All Stars – Judy and Bradley Niemeyer have created several patterns utilizing Lamoyne Stars.  These patterns are great beginner projects so jump in, get your feet wet with learning paper piecing.  Your choice of project size – placemats (My 2 Baby Sisters Placemats) or table runner (Mini Stars Table Runner) or do them both!  Learn the Judy Niemeyer paper piecing method from Certified Instructor, Jan Mathews, in a “stress free” environment.

Description:  This class is for individuals who are familiar with, and who have practiced, quilting by machine.  Deb will introduce her method of progressive quilting, in which the quilt is assembled as the machine quilting is done.  This eliminates the need to roll the quilt to fit in the space to the right of the needle.  Intrigued?  Join Deb for more info.

Description: Summer Solstice is a great “beginner” (as in never paper pieced) project.  It is also a wonderful project for the more experienced quilter to experiment with color placement.  The class will break down the various elements of the pattern and walk you through the Judy Niemeyer paper piecing process.  At Fall Market Quiltworx.com has introduced a queen version of Summer Solstice – there are small modifications to the New York Beauty element, adds a newly designed pieced border, and pieced outside borders (first seen in Mariner’s Compass Technique of the Month).  For this class you will be asked to select which version you want to complete.  Jan Mathews, Certified Instructor for Judy Niemeyer/Quiltworx, will lead you through the Judy Niemeyer process in a calm, positive, and supportive class room setting.

Long_Time_Gone_Book

Long Time Gone

Description:  Do you love Jen Kingwell? Then this group is for you. This group will be scheduled each month through June on the second Wednesday at either 10A, 1P, or 6P. 

Long Time Gone is a sampler quilt with a Modern Twist.  According to Jen the name Long Time Gone reflects the fact that the quilt was lost not once, but twice, throughout her various moves back to Australia.

The finished quilt is 67” x 68”, made up of 13 different blocks and variations plus sashing strips and checkerboard.  It can be made scrappy or planned and each quilt will be as varied and unique as its maker.

Each month you will receive directions and tips on specific sections of the quilt, which you will work on during that month.  You will be given instructions regarding how to fit the blocks into sections and the sections into a finished quilt.

Cost:  $10/month

Description:  We will meet the 4th Tuesday of each month to complete a small Kimberbell project, open to all machine brands.  A supply list will be available each month in advance, with some supplies included in the club price.

Rug Hooking Club

Description:  Join Terry and Kathy and the Aggieland Rug Hookers as we hook the day away!  Bring a brown bag lunch and whatever project you are working on.  This group is great fun and you will learn lots of tips.  Don’t rug hook and would like to learn?  We have all of the supplies you will need and teach classes by request.  Know of somebody who rug hooks?  Please let them know we have lots of wool in many different colors.
